René Echevarria began his career as an amateur screenwriter submitting unsolicited scripts to the producers of Star Trek: The Next Generation. After using a few of his stories, they hired him as a writer. He then became a regular contributor to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He has written for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well as the TV series Now and Again, Castle, Dark Angel, Medium, Terra Nova and is co-creator and writer of "The 4400".
